Isembard is starting an internal product development team for designing, manufacturing, assembling and selling hardware products that extend what Isembard factories can produce and deliver.

This is a new function. You will be the first hire. This will be in an area that is not competitive with our customers.

Role Overview

We are looking for a world-class product developer and mechanical engineer to build our first product.

You will own the full product development lifecycle: building the business case, designing and prototyping hardware, taking concepts through to manufacturable products, and assembling the team that will grow around you.

This is a rare opportunity to build a product capability from the ground up inside an advanced manufacturing company with its own factory network. You will have direct access to machine tools, materials, and manufacturing infrastructure that most product developers never get near.

This is for someone who can hold the whole product development process - commercially, technically, and operationally - and who wants to build something from scratch.

Key Responsibilities

Own the product development process end to end

• Build business cases for new product opportunities: market size, commercial model, feasibility, and strategic fit
• Lead product development from concept through design, prototyping, testing, and production readiness
• Define product specifications, requirements, tolerances, and validation criteria
• Own the design process: CAD, engineering drawings, GD&T, and design for manufacture
• Make decisions under uncertainty and move at pace

Build and lead the team

• Define what the team needs to look like and make the case for resource
• Hire, onboard, and develop the engineering talent to deliver
• Set the technical standard and operating culture
